BBC Learning English - Exam skills

I found another interesting service of the BBC Learning English homepage - it's called "Exam Skills" and is supposed to help you preparing for exams.

In the “preparing” section they give you tips about how to study and how to organise what you want to do at which time. But the leave it up to you how you want to work because you have to find out how you can learn best. However on the day before an exam you should relax a bit and check where and when the exam takes place so that you can be there in time.

The next section is about learning vocabulary. Basically they tell you not to learn words in isolation but in the context and with other words that go with them, they also give you the advice of learning five words per day and to use them when you are talking English. Furthermore they advise you to make a “vocabulary notebook” and make a list of different subjects and all the words related with them.

For written exams they give you the advice of taking a watch with you and not to spend too much time on one of the tasks. For listening exams they give you the tip of getting familiar with the structure of the exam before it begins and if you are going to hear it twice you should use the second listening two answer the more difficult questions and also to check the easier ones. What you can do before the exam is, to listen as much English as possible (TV, radio,...).

For speaking and reading exams they advise you to practice as much as you can. Especially for the speaking part you should remember to be confident and that the examiner is not you “enemy”.

Last but not least they provide some useful links which are supposed to help you for example improve your writing skills or introduce you to how to take an exam.

But it's up to you if you want to check them out or not. But I hope I could help you a little bit :)
