The Statue of Liberty on Liberty Island in New York Harbor was given to the United States by France as a symbol of the independence of the “new world” from the “old world” on October 28, 1886. This means, the statue, which is representing “Libertas”, the Roman goddess of freedom, turned 125 years two days ago.
Yesterday it was closed to the public because some renovation work needs to be done in order to keep it safety for the visitors.
